TEAMS CONTINUE THE WINNING STREAK

STATE LEAGUE ROUND 3

OLYMPIC PARK, THURSDAY 24TH NOVEMBER

Box Hill continued it’s winning start to State League competition with dominant wins in both the male and female competitions. While the women’s team is the outright leader on the ladder, the men’s team is in second place behind last year’s premiers Bayside.

WOMEN

Once again it was a victory without a great impact from the field events with the team dominating several events on the track. Beth Bird continued her great recent form with a win and an improved time in the 400 Hurdles. Sandy Millner, team captain Cathy Marshall and Jane Tulloch took maximum points in the 200’s. The 800 team was dominant again taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd, led home by Kerri Jorgensen. 17 year old, Jessica DeBruin ran a P.B. in the 5000 and the relay team came back well to run a close second in the race, but win our heat.

MEN

Stephen Hooker again showed what a great talent he is by leading the team to its third victory in a s many weeks. Easily beating his rivals in the Pole Vault and High Jump, Steve backed up with placing in the Long Jump and 110 Hurdles. Steve was well backed up by the rest of the team with Justin Clarke again winning the 200 metres and bringing the relay team home to comfortable victory. He was well supported by 17 year old James Fildes in the second heat. The 800 team took maximum points as Michael Jones was again to strong for his competition, and Julian Dwyer returned to win the 5000 in a desperate sprint for the line, and looks set for a big summer. Significantly, for the first time in two seasons Box Hill scored in the Shot Put with Homelo Vi returning to competition, and promises to improve over the coming months.
