TEAMS CONTINUE THE FLYING START
STATE LEAGUE ROUND 4
OLYMPIC PARK, THURSDAY 30TH NOVEMBER

Box Hill Men and Women continued on with their early season winning form, and remain undefeated after 4 rounds of competition. While the women easily defeated one of our main rivals in Doncaster, the men had a closer battle against Athletics Essendon and Doncaster. The big test for the men will come in two weeks time when we meet last years premier, Bayside who are also undefeated so far this year.

WOMEN

Once again it was a great overall performance by the team with several regulars contributing outstanding performances. Wendy Muldoon continued her good form to win the walk, Kerri Jorgensen won again over 1500, and 16-year-old Ashlee Hayes eased back into State League competition with a win in the Pole Vault. The 400’s were close with Beth Bird and Sally Ogilvy appearing to dead heat on the line, only to be bettered by Erica Sigmont in the next heat by .09 of a second. We again took maximum points in a close hurdles heat, while junior Cecelia Azcurra continues to show great promise in the throws.

MEN

With the team again struggling to score many points early in the night, it was great to see the juniors of the club show the way in the 100’s. While 17 year olds Lane Harrison and Mohammed Zeed have come through Little Athletics to be State Junior champions, our third runner on the night 15 year old Adam Remmers, still competes in Little athletics competitions. With these juniors showing the way early, we can look forward to the return of our senior sprinters after Christmas. Once again Stephen Hooker dominated the scoring across four events, winning his heats of the Pole Vault, High Jump, Hurdles and being part of the winning relay team. In the distance events Marcus Tierney and Graeme Olden again led the team, while new athlete Marty Duke showed great promise in his first run for the season.
