CHAMPIONSHIPS - BRISBANE

The Box Hill Athletic Club yesterday finished fifth in both the men's and women's competition at the National Club Championships in Brisbane. The final teams results were:

With only 9 male athletes and 11 female athletes from a maximum allowable of 14, we struggled to be competitive across the full range of events. The men's team held their own on the track with Mohamad Zeed winning his heat of the 100 in 11.01 and finishing second in the 200 m hurdles, while Ned McLeod also finished second in the 200 m hurdles. Tim Heron ran a fast 800 for 9:00 am in the morning - 1:52.52 to finish third and Marty Duke ran a solid 400 m of 48.95. Unfortunately, we had no specialist field athletes in Brisbane so we struggled to beat any other athletes in these events.
Kerri Jorgensen won the 800 m in the women's competition and Rosie Ditton finished third in the pole vault, however the girls also struggled from a lack of specialist field event athletes and sprinters. With our full strength men's team in Brisbane, we would have gone very close to winning the competition. Hopefully next year we will be able to field a full strength team.
