Annual General MeetingWednesday 9 July 2008 |
There was an excellent attendance at the Annual General Meeting held on Wednesday 9th July 2008 at the Club rooms. The President, Colin Organ, presented the Annual Report which listed in great detail the achievements of the Club over the past year, including another healthy surplus for the Club.
A highlight of the meeting was the award of Life Membership to long serving member, John Meagher.
The following is a summary of the nomination which was presented prior to award of Life Membership to John:
John Meagher has been a Box Hill Athletic Club member since 1978, apart from a brief period when he competed for Essendon.
He has always supported the club on the track, running for the club at every opportunity. He has had an outstanding career including a 3rd place in the 1990 national marathon championship with a PB of 2:16:57. Right from the start he helped recruit other athletes to Box Hill (Kynan Dawes, Paul Curtis, Ian Robertson, Stuart Cooke to name a few). He also helped around the Club with making wooden battens for replacement hurdle tops, supervising the laying of concrete around the long jump pits and helping with construction of the BBQ at the track.
In more recent times, he has been a member of the AV Board and has done an enormous amount to rebuild our junior and now senior distance running team to the point that we are now in a position to win our first winter premiership for about 30 years.
The committee recommends that Life Membership be awarded to John.
