Box Hill men’s division 1 team came close to winning our first event for the season, but in the end went down to Glenhuntly, 120 to 130 points. With Marcus Tierney and Barry Lynch unavailable and Simon Watson hurting his hamstring during the event, we were unable to pull off the win, but strong performances by the whole team saw us go very close.
Andrew White has continued to improve throughout the winter season and was our first runner across the line in 12th position. With two invitation runners from NSW, Andrew was the 10th Victorian a great result in his first season out of junior ranks.
John Meagher placed 14th and Alan Craigie 20th overall with Steve Dineen, Daniel Clark and Adrian Vincent making up our division 1 team.
Results: Team-2nd 12. Andrew White 37:25 14. John Meagher 37:33 20. Alan Craigie 38:09 27. Daniel Clark 39:03 30. Steve Dineen 39:13 39. Adrian Vincent 40:05
Despite Simon Watson soldiering on to finish with hamstring problems, we were one runner short of making up a division 4 team. This sees us slip from the top of the ladder in this division. Hopefully we can get more runners to the starting line at Frankston in the next event so that we can win promotion to division 3.
Results: 41. Graeme Olden 40:07 48. Chris O’Connor 40:34 61. Simon Watson 41.06 164. David Ayers 46:12
Good runs by Jocelyn Keage, Rachel Johnson and Jess De Bruin saw our division 2 team comfortably win their division. We are clearly 2nd on the ladder now and threatening Eureka who are leading this division at present.
Results: Team - 1st 18. Jocelyn Keage 30:25 22. Rachel Johnson 30:57 25. Jess De Bruin 31:13
Amanda Harper continued her to improve with a another best ever placing, while Megan Sloane showed that she is returning to fitness after illness and Kylie King performed well in her first cross country event. Official results are not available but it appears that the team just missed out on winning this division.
Results: Team - 2nd 40. Amanda Harper 32:38 48. Megan Sloane 33:56 70. Kylie King 36:49
There were some good results amongst our junior athletes. The Arunasalam boys ran well in the under 20 8km event, with Navin finishing 9th in a time of 27:09 and Ruben returning from injury, coming in 16th place in 28:05.
The girls 4km race was run as a mixed event and AV have yet to release the official results, but it appears that Hayley Tomlinson finished 2nd in the under 18 event in a time of 15:10, with Kate Wall 9th in a time of 16:35.
Harriet Hodgkinson was 10th in the under 16s in a time of 15:51.
A special thanks to all those who came out to Bundoora to act as officials. Your efforts are appreciated by all those at the club.
