VICTORIAN RUNNING NETWORK EVENT AT BOX HILL ON WEDNESDAY

Be aware that there is a running event at Box Hill on Wednesday night from 7:00pm.

We apologise for any inconvenience to those who usually use the track on a Wednesday evening.

For those wishing to run in a 3000m event, this series of graded 3000m races is open to everyone and entries are still open via the AV website.

XCR’16 IS COMING!

The 2016 cross country and road racing season (XCR’16) is less than 4 weeks away. The winter season will commence with the Club 5k handicap on April 9 and then the Jells Park cross country relays on April 16.

JELLS PARK RELAYS: APRIL 16

The XCR’16 season will commence with the traditional Jells Park cross country relays.

Please let us know about your availability for this popular event. We plan to enter teams in all age groups. To compete in this event you must be registered for the new 2016/17 athletics season. Register online from the AV website from April 1.

REGISTRATIONS DUE, APRIL 1

Registrations for the new 2016/17 athletics year opens on April 1. Register online via the Athletics Victoria website.

Note that AV have introduced a new fee structure and you should soon receive a membership guide.

In short, you will pay one fee to join Athletics Victoria and another fee to join the club. You can then pay an XCR fee which gives you free entry to all AV cross country and road events or a Track and field fee, which gives you entry to shield competition (or you choose the “maxpack” which gives you entry to both). More details next week.

CLUB 5K HANDICAP

The annual Club 5k handicap will be held at the usual venue along the trail beside Gardiner’s Creek, near Deakin University on the morning of Saturday, April 9. Everyone is invited to race, run or jog and then join us for brunch afterwards. If you wish to run, please let us know as soon as possible so that handicap marks can be calculated.

LIKE A RUN IN THE FOREST?

Everyone is welcome to join us for a run in Sherbrooke Forest at 8:00am on Sunday April 3.

The run will begin at Grants Picnic Ground and finish with a coffee and/or breakfast at the picnic grounds café. There are a number of different distances that you can complete after running the first loop together.

CONGRATULATIONS DION!

Dion Finocchiaro has again put in an amazing ultra-marathon performance, winning the 100km event in Canberra running a time of 7 hours and 16 minutes. Dion ran 250 laps of the Canberra track averaging around 4:20 per km., a remarkable performance. This is likely to qualify Dion for the world 100km championships later in the year.
