March 2, 2009
Around 120 people packed into the Club rooms on a warm evening on Monday 2nd March to hear former Club member and Beijing Olympic Gold Medallist Steve Hooker OAM talk about his career to date and wonderful results over the past year.
The evening started with a video presentation prepared by Chris O’Connor showing various highlights of Steve vaulting from a young athlete at the Club through to the excitement of the final in Beijing.
Steve’s long time coach Mark Stewart then joined Steve in front of the audience to discuss Steve’s career to date and talk about what has helped him achieve the success that he has achieved to date.
Steve then kindly answered a number of questions from the assembled audience before spending the next hour chatting with various members of the audience, signing autographs and posing for photographs.
As well as being a celebration of the success of Steve over the past year, the night was also held to raise funds for new weather protection covers for the pole vault mats. The evening was a great success with over $3500 being raised.
The Box Hill Athletic Club thanks Steve for supporting the Club and sharing his experiences with us.
A collection of photos from the night is included below.
